Healing Instructions

Healing Instructions for Tattoo Aftercare

1. Using Transparent Film Adhesive Bandages

Recommended Brands:

- Saniderm

- Tegaderm

- Derm Shield

Important Notes:

- Choose latex-free, transparent, matte film adhesive bandages for optimal healing.

- Avoid inferior or unknown-brand products from sources like Amazon.

- Smaller rolls or pieces are easier to apply.

- It is advisable to purchase these products prior to your appointment for convenience.

Application Instructions

Step 1:

Gently clean your new tattoo with warm water and a fragrance-free, mild liquid soap. Use your fingertips—avoid using washcloths, sponges, or brushes. Rinse thoroughly to ensure all soap residue is removed. Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel, then allow it to air dry completely for at least five minutes. Refrain from applying any ointments or lotions at this stage.

Step 2:

Cut the bandage to the desired size, leaving an extra margin of approximately two inches around the entire perimeter. Larger margins help provide better coverage and protection.

Step 3:

Carefully peel off the backing to expose the adhesive surface. Position the bandage smoothly over the tattoo, pressing from the center outward to eliminate wrinkles and air bubbles. Ensure the edges are firmly adhered, particularly around the perimeter. When applying additional pieces, peel each backing before placement and overlap edges by about 1.5 inches, maintaining a minimum of 1.5 inches of margin around the tattoo.

Wear Duration:

Leave the bandage in place for approximately five to six days. If fluid accumulates within the first 24 hours, carefully remove and replace the bandage following the same steps.

Removal & Follow-Up Care:

- To Remove:

Start at the top and gently peel the bandage downward, pulling slowly. Do not pull upward or yank.

- Post-Removal:

Wash your tattoo with warm water and a fragrance-free, gentle liquid soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.

Apply a fragrance-free lotion 3 times daily for the next 14 days or until fully healed.

Important Do’s and Don’ts During Healing

Avoid prolonged water immersion:

Refrain from swimming pools, lakes, hot tubs, baths, saunas, or any activity that submerges the tattoo underwater for at least 2 weeks.

Protect from sunlight:

Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight. Use SPF 50 or higher sunscreen when outdoors.

Refrain from scratching:

Scratching damages your tattoo and can cause scarring. Pat, rub, or apply lotion instead.

Avoid contact with dirty surfaces:

Do not place your tattoo on countertops, gym equipment, bedding, or other potentially contaminated surfaces. Pet hair is a common cause of infection.

No tanning:

Avoid tanning beds and tanning the area until fully healed.

Numbing agents:

Do not apply or use numbing agents without consulting your artist, as they can negatively affect healing.

If you have questions or concerns at any point, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your follow-up care is important for optimal healing!
